All the little, subtle variations in the right hand in just the first 8 measures are like a masterclass of material. Listen to other people try to cop it and it’s night and day.

I challenge any 5-piece band to play a version that’s as syncopated, funky, and varied as this one man did with his voice, two hands, and a piano.

New orleans piano at its best. Very few pianists can be compared to him.

That left hand alone is OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD. I've been watching this video for almost 25 years now (bought it as VHS when i was 18). I have been practicing for hours, days, months and years. I can say I am quite a successful performing artist these days. But I am not anywhere close the talent that Dr Johns has in his left toe only. Let alone his talent as a performing musician as we all know. Deepest respect to this man. I met him once. Very down to earth guy.

From the perspective of someone who's been playing the piano for nearly four decades, watching Dr John is a humbling experience. What he's playing is far from easy; & it's precise.. & he's singing at the same time as if it's the easiest thing in the world to do. So very good.

He is typical at it, feels the doing and is doing the feels. When you are trying to imitate this at your own piano with your own capabilities, it will just fry your brains.
